Understand music lesson fees

Independent teachers and academies set their own prices. SwarShala does not publish a standard tuition fee or a verified local fee survey.

What SwarShala currently charges

The public guides and enquiry forms on this website do not collect a fee. There is no SwarShala lesson checkout or paid learner subscription on the site. Sending an enquiry does not authorise a charge or reserve a lesson.

Any lesson quote, trial charge, deposit or tuition payment must be agreed with the independent provider. Confirm the payment recipient and ask for a receipt. We do not guarantee a free trial or offer refunds on behalf of a teacher or academy.

Ask for a quote you can compare

  • Instrument, learner level, named teacher and lesson format.
  • Lesson duration, lessons per billing period, individual or group format and maximum group size.
  • Joining fees, taxes where applicable, learning materials, travel charges and equipment or room charges.
  • The total payable amount, billing schedule, package expiry and what happens during holidays.
  • Whether examination entry, performances or feedback between lessons are included or separately charged.

Normalise lesson time without ignoring quality

Compare both the total amount you will pay and the actual teaching time. A lower monthly quote may include fewer lessons or shorter sessions. Divide the package cost by the number of included sessions to find the cost per lesson, then compare their duration.

Illustrative arithmetic only, not a SwarShala or market quote: a package of four 45-minute lessons at ₹3,000 contains 180 minutes of teaching, equivalent to ₹1,000 per teaching hour. Four 60-minute lessons at ₹3,600 are equivalent to ₹900 per teaching hour. A longer session is only useful if its pace and feedback suit the learner.

For a group lesson, the hourly amount does not describe the amount of individual feedback. Ask how the time is organised before choosing on price alone.

Cancellations, missed lessons and refunds

  • How much notice does the learner need to give, and does a cancelled lesson qualify for a replacement or refund?
  • What happens if the teacher cancels or a substitute is offered?
  • How are connection failures, illness, public holidays and late arrival handled?
  • Does a prepaid package expire, and can unused lessons be refunded or transferred?
  • What is the refund request process, who makes the decision, and when will an agreed refund be issued?

Before paying

Keep the written quote and policies you agreed, along with the provider's identity and contact details. Do not assume a verbal promise changes a written package restriction: ask the provider to confirm the change.

If a payment or lesson problem occurs, contact the provider with the relevant agreement and receipt. You can also report concerns about information or introductions on SwarShala through Contact so the platform can review them.

Use our comparison checklist to keep price alongside teaching approach, availability and learner needs.

Describe the lessons you are looking for

Send an enquiry with your instrument, level, preferred format and general location. Availability and lesson terms must be confirmed with an independent provider; sending an enquiry does not book a lesson.
